The most common symptom of faulty gas caps is likely a gas cap that is loose or a gas cap that won’t tighten completely. This may not seem important right away, but if you don’t have an air-tight seal then the entire fuel system can be exposed to grime and dirt. If your gas cap isn’t closing properly, check the rubber gasket to be sure it’s not brittle or missing. If you have an older car or truck, make sure the metal gas cap is not bent or damaged.
