Either way, buyers were willing to pay for the benefit to buy something exclusive, even if they knew it would take time to complete the order. The status symbol of getting a rare vehicle canceled out the extra wait time vs. getting a car from the local inventory. Fast forward to today, and the car-buying landscape has dramatically shifted. Gone are the days of rows and rows of new vehicles to choose from, so when you need something specific, then buying directly from the manufacturer is now your best option.
